I am available on a limited basis for traditional studio, location, and nature/beach types of family and individaul portraiture. Email me at ave@melnick-photo.com or call the office 617-964-2299 or studio 617-332-7177 to inquire about fees and times. Summer is a good time for outdoor family portraits that can be used for Holiday season cards. High school senior pictures are popular now also. In addition, everything on the site (except for personal portraiture) is available for purchase -- navigate to my online sales feature through the purchase menus -- or email or call me if specific images are not available there. All credit cards are taken, and most purchases of landscape/fine art images can handled online or by phone if not directly through the site.

I have been involved with photography for 30 years, starting with black and white and darkroom efforts, evolving into color, and for the last 6 years moving to almost completely digital. My interests started with landscape and nature, but over the last 12 years, since the birth of my daughter, have included much childrens' and lately adult protraiture. A love of the outdoors and nature has been a major influence in my photography, enhanced by time spent in the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, trekking in the Himalayas, and especially summers in Weekapaug, R.I. A quiet beach community in southwestern Rhode Island, Weekapaug has afforded me extended stays around the seashore coupled with the leisure time to spend taking pictures of kids, beaches, ocean, etc. Several courses at the New England School of Photography have been instrumental in my recent development, especially in the area of portraiture. I still do a considerable amount of landscape, scenics, and nature work. Setting up a small studio in my home recently has enhanced my abilities in portraiture, and I have pursued family , individual, childrens, and even pet portraiture. Although I am an amateur photographer, and by profession a doctor, I spend much of my free time on image making and processing -- that is, when not involved with my family (although I'm accused of trying to do both at the same time). I have been selling images on a limited basis of family portraits, beach and vacation scenics, and landscape photographs. I would like to develop more of the business side of these efforts. My major cameras include a Nikon D2X, d200, and a Hasselblad H1 with a Kodak Proback 645H. I use a fast Dell system and Mac G5 quad duo, Adobe Photoshop, and primarily an Epson 2400 and 4000 printer. These printers archival large format color and brilliant black and white prints, and thus I do all my own custom printing.

When not photographing, I am a Board Certified Internist and Geriatrician practicing in Newton, Massachusetts. My office is located at 2000 Washington St. Suite 570, Newton, 02462, adjacent to theNewton-Wellesley Hospital. I am on the staff of Newton-Wellesley and Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospitals, and maintain an open practice to new patients. The practice consists of myself, Heather Martin, our receptionist, Kim Martin, our medical assistant, and Susan Burns, our billing person. I maintain 24/7 coverage with a group of other Internists, and can see most patients as needed when the office is open, which is 9-5 Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 617-964-2299.Appointments can be made by calling Heather. I am available for phone assistance when needed, and can always be emailed. We take all major insurances, including Medicare and Mass Health.

My background includes a B. S. at Yale University in 1970, M.D. at University of Pennsylvania, and residencies in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Boston City Hospital. My professional experiences include working in the Indian Health Service in Idaho, being Medical Directors of Leominster Hospital Emergency Room, and of Healthstop Walk-In Clinics, and practicing medicine at the current location since 1987.
